It's been a year since I visited Beijing and but I can still vividly remember how fabulous my trip was. Here is a guide on how to apply a Chinese Tourist Visa from Consulate of China in Dubai. You can check the consulate's site for requirements of other type of visas.

Documents that need to be gathered:

• Passport– You should submit your original passport that is valid for at least another 6 months with at least one blank visa page and a photocopy of the passport's information/photo page. 
•  Visa Application Form– You should submit the Visa Application Form of the People's Republic of China (V2011A) which is truthfully completed and signed. You should submit the truthfully completed and signed Supplementary Visa Application Form(V2011B) if you are seeking to work (Z Visa) OR study (X Visa) in China, if you are a citizen of a third country, or if someone else traveling with you shares the same passport with you. 
•  Confirmation letter in original (in English) from the employer; stating the salary, applicant's current employment/work and date when joining the company, the dates of the approved leave, and stating the purpose of the visit. The letter should be printed on the company letter and should be signed by the authorized person to sign such letters, name and position stated of the signer.
•  Bookings of round trip tickets. (Not Paid Nor Confirmed)
• Photo– Please affix one color photo on the Application Form. The photo should be recent, front view, in 48mm x33mm size without head covering. 
• Hotel bookings. (Better to book first at www.booking.com---you can easily cancel bookings if there are any issues)
•  Proof of UAE Residency Status– Third country citizens need to provide the original and a photocopy of UAE residency visa. 
•  Letter to the embassy of your itinerary if it is self-made. In my case, I didn't book for any tour agencies so basically, I made the itineraries all by myself.
• Visa Fees.  Visa fee is payable by credit card and debit card only. Cash, check, money order and other payments are not accepted.
