The DEAD SEA Floater

Ever been to the Dead Sea? What would you feel if you have an opportunity to float on Earth's lowest point? Even myself doesn't know what adjective to use! :P

The spectacular view of the Dead Sea from Oh Beach Resort
Floating 400 meters below sea level

I considered myself lucky to experience floating in the Dead Sea on the Jordanian side. Oh Beach Resort was the place to be! You can enjoy magnificent view of the Dead Sea from their hotel, the delectable food, the amazing infinity pool, gratifying guest services and of course when it comes to the price (30JD per person including buffet lunch), your moolah is totally worth it!

Chilling by the infinity pool

Woooohooo!
The food served were definitely to die for!

As stated by Wikipedia:

"The Dead Sea (Hebrew: יָם הַמֶּלַח, Yām HaMélaḥ, "Sea of Salt", also Hebrew: יָם הַמָּוֶת, Yām HaMā́weṯ, "The Sea of Death", and Arabic: البحر الميت  al-Baḥr al-Mayyit, also called the Salt Sea, is a salt lake bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and Palestine to the west. Its surface and shores are 429 metres (1,407 ft) below sea level, Earth's lowest elevation on land. The Dead Sea is 304 m (997 ft) deep, the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. With 34.2% salinity (in 2011), it is also one of the world's saltiest bodies of water, though Lake Vanda in Antarctica (35%), Lake Assal in Djibouti (34.8%), Lagoon Garabogazköl in the Caspian Sea (up to 35%) and some hypersaline ponds and lakes of the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica (such as Don Juan Pond (44%)) have reported higher salinities. It is 9.6 times as salty as the ocean. This salinity makes for a harsh environment in which animals cannot flourish, hence its name. The Dead Sea is 50 kilometres (31 mi) long and 15 kilometres (9 mi) wide at its widest point. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley and its main tributary is the Jordan River."

The dead sea is also well-known for its healing water mineral contents. Many dead sea products are also available for you to buy such as soaps, masks, foam baths, cleansers, etc. I tried the dead sea mud treatment while in there. It is actually a must for everyone. The experience was totally priceless!

Enjoyed the mud experience! :-)

Why add Dead Sea in your Bucket List?

1.) For the reason that it may vanish in the future. According to www.livescience.com

"Water levels in the Dead Sea have been dropping over the last few years as towns and villages in Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria suck up run-off water that would normally fill the extra-salty lake. But new research finds that even in periods without human pressures, the Dead Sea may have dried up, including once when it did so almost entirely more than 100,000 years ago."

2.) Once in a lifetime opportunity to float on Earth's lowest point. But please, be cautious when you are in the water. The water actually accidentally entered my eyes. That was the terrible part. I felt as if I was blind that time. Good thing we were near the normal running water provided by the hotel.

3.) Benefits of Dead Sea water to our skin. According to www.usatoday.com,

"Several forms of hydrotherapy are known to help with recovery of damage to the body. One hydrotherapy, thalassotherapy, is the class of treatments that use sea waters specifically for their unique combinations of salt and mineral content. Such therapies have been beneficial to those who suffer skin conditions like eczema and those who have joint or muscle injuries, pain or chronic conditions, such as those with arthritis."

"Balneotherapy is the use of bathing -- with or without accompanying massage within the water -- to treat physical and mental ailments. Minerals in the water may topically benefit the skin’s surface and may be absorbed to help treat deeper issues. Travelers can benefit from the general effect of these treatments without any effort, simply by visiting and enjoying the waters. More tailored and intensive applications are also available through local spas that populate the region."
