Maldives Honeymoon Budget

I've been getting lots of questions lately about our honeymoon trip last year. How much was our budget? What resort can I recommend? How did we travel from Male to the resort? Was it by seaplane or speedboat? Where did I book our stay?

Planning your honeymoon is something you and your husband or fiancé has to decide together. My husband and I were planning months before our wedding. We wanted to treat ourselves after years of hardwork and celebrating new chapter of our lives. We were thinking of places like Bali, Phuket, and yes, Maldives. We weighed everything from plane ticket cost, resort to stay, location, and food budget. Maldives was our choice in the end. 😊

We flew out from Singapore via Tiger Airways and stayed in Hulhumale for 1 night. We were then transferred to the port in the morning for our speedboat transfer going to the resort. We chose Bandos Island Resort because the price is reasonable compared to other resorts. I also love the amenities of the resort. Moreover, it is located near Male so the transfer service was quite cheap. Mind you, other resorts will cost you $400/pax one way for a seaplane transfer. So it really depends how far the resort is. I made this budget list after reviewing again all our receipts and I got some travel tips at the end of my post for those who want to experience Maldives on a budget. Please check it out. 😊

Hotel/Resort

Crystal Beach Inn- Located in Hulhumale and is very near to the airport. We booked for Double Deluxe Room for 1 night with free airport transfers and breakfast.

Bandos Island Resort- We booked a Jacuzzi Beach Villa for 3 nights with full board meals---this package includes welcome drinks, buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner excluding drinks).

Price of the resort also depends on the season. You might want to check in advance coz there will be times this resort can also be very expensive.

Hotel Facilities: Spa, Pool, Restaurants, Diving Center, Bar and Pool Bar.

List of Expenses (2 Pax)

*Airfare- $504 (with 15kg baggage via Tiger Airways from Singapore)
*Visa Cost- FREE
*Crystal Beach Inn- $77 (Deluxe Double Room for 1 night)
*Bandos Island Resort- $1089.36 (Jacuzzi Beach Villa for 3 nights)
*Speed Boat Transfers- $187.28

Total: $2057.64

Travel tips:

•If you want to have a cheap vacation in Maldives, book your hotel in Male and do island hopping instead during the day in nearby resorts. Staying in the resort is the reason why it can be  expensive. Everything needs to be imported in the island, thus explain the price.

•Try to bring your own snacks if possible. We had groceries before we travel and it saved us a lot. A bottle of water will normally cost you a whooping $4 on average inside the resort!

I advise you take full board or all inclusive package for each stay as the resort price per meal is very expensive. Just imagine paying $40-50/pax/meal!

•Always check your resort's location. You will often see in booking sites a cheap resort but then, you have no idea that you will be taking a seaplane for transfers! And seaplane in Maldives has never been cheap. Most of the times, it will cost you more than the room rate itself.

So, that's it. Hoping I helped you in planning your future Maldivian trip! 😊
